Turning Things Over Doesn't Mean Not Taking Action

inspiration and motivation Aug 15, 2021

Trying something new today - a video blog. It's short, I promise!

(Note: I'm not very religious but am very spiritual. In this video I use the word God, but encourage you to substitute whatever name or word you use for your Higher Power or whoever/whatever you might turn to in moments of prayer, meditation or surrender.)

I thought I would record a video blog today just for timing’s sake and also because I'm not sure if I'll be able to articulate all the thoughts I want to on paper, very easily.

So recently I've seen a lot of posts on social media and other places commentary from posts about praying to God about receiving an outcome that you want. In particular, I've seen a lot about protection or getting rid of something that people don't want in their lives. You know, just as an example, we might use weight loss, but there can be any number of things. It could be financial problems; it could be health issues, and many other things.

But taking the idea of weight loss, just because it's kind of something we probably mostly relate to those they all relate to. There's a difference between making an assumption that that God's got your back and is going to take care of everything for you and realizing that part of God taking care of something for you is YOU taking steps towards fixing the issue.

You know there's no magic cure through prayer. Prayer IS amazing. Meditation IS amazing. And I certainly believe in faith - it's gotten me through a lot of difficult things but really I think it's a mistaken assumption, to think that we can just pray something away, That we can pray away pounds, or pray away a health condition or pray away a financial situation without using the tools, ideas, strategies and options that God has placed in front of us.

Years ago, as an example, I had a friend, an acquaintance actually, who was talking about how she didn't need to pay her bills any longer because “God would provide.” And I kind of understand where she was coming from, you know, as far as she knew God was going to take care of her, so she didn't need to worry. I totally agree with that part. But where she was missing the boat was that God provides through the opportunities presented.

For example, you have a job, or you have the opportunity to manage your money wisely. You know we have to sort of “meet” the opportunity with action. We can't just expect that our bills are magically going to get paid; that the Duke power bill is going to not exist because we prayed or because “God is going to take care” of it.

I think it's important to recognize that whatever you have going on in your life, whether you're trying to attract something to you, or to repel or let go of something you feel is unwanted, it is not just a matter of God, taking over. It's a matter of you putting your faith in a way will emerge; that God will show you the plan; that God will outline the steps; that God will provide the actions for you to take. And…that you, as a willing participant in your life, are going to make use of those things.

Sorry if I come off a little preachy - I don't mean it in that way😊 But I'm hoping that someone reading or reading my blog or watching this video will have an aha moment and recognize that you can pray as a step, turn it over to God as a step. But also recognize what your role in meeting that goal or letting go of that burden is.

Anyway, thank you for stopping by. And I'll see you next time.
