Ask Felicia: Keeping Clients After Maternity Leave

ree

Q: Dear Felicia –

I am 8 months pregnant. When the baby is born, I am going to "retire" for about a month. Although my spa will be open, I am afraid some of my own massage clients may be "lost." Can you give me any ideas about promotions or special offers I can use to stay in touch and not lose them? Thanks!

A: Dear Mom -

Congratulations on your pregnancy and pending expansion of your family. I know you must be excited about the changes even though you are worried about keeping your clients loyalty and business.

Why don't you offer your clients a special rate or appointment upgrade for pre-booking (NOW) their first appointment after you get back from your leave? It gives them an incentive to return and will help you forecast your income when you return.

Also, if you have them signed up for your email list or Facebook group/page, you could share pics and updates about the little one each week until you come back. There might even be room for tips you're learning on infant massage! These ways of reaching out will help you stay connected and in their thoughts.

In the meantime, is there someone else in your spa who can see them or that can cover for you with the understanding that it is a temporary opportunity? You may lose a few clients in the short run but perhaps they will let you cover for them in the future and it will all even out. Good luck!
