Pushing the Boundaries

ree

I'm always looking to try new things with my art. With the recent gift of several canvases of the same size, I am planning to try a multi panel piece.

I have a few ideas and decided to try one out with some of the paint that came with the canvases. Below is a test design done on rejected printer paper.

As I sit here and look at it, I wonder why I didn't put it on a nicer paper to start. Why didn't I have the confidence that the practice piece would be good enough to save or frame?

It's definitely something I have to examine. Even so, I'm really glad I did it as it's very different than what I've been doing lately.

And I'm definitely going to hang it up as a reminder to myself that it's ok to invest in a high-quality foundation for whatever I am creating, AND that even when I can't do that, I can still create something beautiful with whatever life is offering right now. ❤️

I'm not sure why I'm drawn to doing these geometric designs right now. Maybe it's something about using primary colors with simple shapes.

Something interesting I learned on this next one is that I really like having boundaries. When I tape off sections, I feel freer with the brush and paint, less like I am holding back. When I don't tape it, I'm more tentative and worried about getting it wrong.

Weird, huh?

But it kind of reminds me of how much more I get done on a really busy day than on one that is totally open. The time boundaries almost seem to free my mind or help it focus.

I think life is like that, too. When I know where my limits are, I know when I push too far out of them, or something bleeds over.

Of course, sometimes we push ourselves into good things - spaces and places we never expected to go. Our worlds unexpectedly overlap and intersect with new colors and concepts.

Old rules change and fall away. We stop trying to fit the mold of the past and become something never before imagined.

I'm not sure this piece is finished yet. After I've completed each stage, I've given myself a chance to sit back, reflect on the open spaces, and allow the canvas to tell me what it needs; it actually feels like the start of something much bigger and will keep growing, just like I am.

What about you? When was the last time you stopped to create the space to reflect on what you've done before leaping into whatever is next?

I continue to receive signs that it is time to offer retreats and workshops to help others explore their lives and expand into who they are yearning to become. My vision is to help others (re)connect to who they are; (re)discover what they love and desire; and to (re)create an abundant life and/or business that is satisfying, joyful, and happy.

If you are ready to redefine your boundaries and give yourself more freedom to explore, I'd love to be of help! To that end, I am planning several "day-treats" and longer getaways in 2026. I am still working on exact dates and locations, but the first ones will be within a 1-2 hour drive of Orlando, Florida, and/or Greensboro, NC. (Note: if you'd like to host a "day-treat" for your company or group at your location, click here to initiate a conversation.)
