Ask Felicia: Inviting Clients Back

Q: Dear Felicia -
I have a list of my clients who haven't been in for massage sessions in a while. Rather than send a text or email, I'd like to call and invite them back at a reduced rate, but I am having a hard time. I get so nervous and get tongue-tied, talk too fast, and have no confidence at all. Yesterday was a great day to make calls, but I couldn't get up the nerve to do it. Any suggestions on reaching out to clients with more confidence and better results?

A: Dear TT -
My best suggestion is to write down a script or checklist of what you plan to say and practice before the call. Then take a deep breath, relax, and remind yourself that the intention of the call is to reach out to clients and let them know you care about them and their well-being, as well as their business.
Here's a quick example of what I might say:
"Hi _______________. It's Felicia from Spa La La. It's been a while since you were last in, and we miss seeing you here. How've you been?
I'd like to give you a special offer to come in this week/month for another massage. The welcome back offer is your choice of a 90-minute massage for the price of an hour session, OR a 10% discount on an hour session. Which would you prefer?"
Another option: On most smartphones, it's super easy to send a voice text with the same information and to redo it before sending if you make a mistake :-)
Make sure to have a list of times ready that might appeal to them based on past visits and your availability. Stay calm, breathe, and smile while you are talking. And remind yourself that even if they don't book, you are in no worse shape than you were before you made the call. Be proud of yourself for making the effort to improve their life through massage and grow your business by reaching out.
