WOW, what a week it's been! Since my last post, I have been fully immersed in the design, preparation, and painting of my very first mural and LIVE art installation at the award-winning, Se7enBites restaurant. (USA Today has it on their 10 Best Restaurants in Orlando, FL.) On a whim, I applied to be one of 48 artists who would transform the hip diner's parking lot into an outdoor art exhibit dedicated to love, joy, and community. I'm incredibly honored that I was chosen out of more than 1000 applicants.

I surprised myself by moving WAY out of my comfort zone with this project. In addition to working on a scale I've never done, I got to figure out how to transform my original horizontal design into something for a vertical parking space. I also had to learn how to paint outside on asphalt. My sketched-out design and my living room mock-up are pictured below.
Both the prep day (Sunday) and painting day (Monday) were very warm, bright and sunny. Thankfully, we had a few clouds, occasional breezes, and good music to paint by. Also, the restaurant arranged to have lunch for all the artists and kept us stocked up on beverages, clean-up necessities, and air-conditioned breaks inside.
The day was filled with a sense of excitement, camaraderie, community, and love. Besides just the artists, the vendors, volunteers, and those who came to see the magic happening made time pass quickly. Everyone I spoke to was kind, friendly, appreciative, and loving. It was wonderful to meet people like my new friend, Pavel, and to get our hands "dirty" together to make a community hand-print painting in one of the spaces.
I got interviewed by WESH 2 about the event. It was SO exciting to see a piece of my art on television - and to be introduced as a local artist. Click here to watch the interview.
The way everything came together to make this project a reality was phenomenal. The Universe works in mysterious ways, and I am grateful for all the things that lined up! I learned SO much, connected with my art in a brand new way, and had an incredible experience. I'm also amazed that, after spending 18+ hours prepping and painting—much of it seated or kneeling on the ground—I was not terribly sore or stiff. What a gift!

Even better, I am so happy with the results of my work!
If invited, I'll definitely do it again!
